Italian masters championships in hunt for the Roma 2022 qualification

After a three-year stop, the Italian masters championships of all aquatic disciplines are finally underway. The splendid atmosphere of Riccione, venue of the Italian elite championships in swimming, diving and artistic swimming, had already welcomed the last edition of the national championships in 2019, which was followed by a year of stop due to Covid and only a few events divided by disciplines to limit the numbers of participants.

Today, the Italian championship becomes even more important from a European perspective. In Riccione, many athletes will be trying to get the time to qualify and enter the European Aquatics Masters Championships Roma 2022, where it's expected to have a massive presence of Italian participants to compete on home soil.

The event will start with diving and artistic swimming, both until 26 June; from 28 to 3 July it will be the turn of swimming, from 8 to 10 July there will be the open water swimming competition, and water polo will then close the Championships from 13 to 17 July.

In Riccione many athletes have entered all the aquatic disciplines: in swimming alone, more than 3,000 participants coming from all over Italy will take parst in the almost 7,000 planned races. Starting from the M/F25 category up to M/F75, from young athletes up to adults, very often grandmothers and grandfathers, all chasing the qualification time for Roma 2022.
