After the Spanish open water swimming championships that took place in Banyoles (on 20-22 May), the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN) announced the provisional list of athletes who will take part in the European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
The open water competition will take place from 17 to 21 August at the Lido di Ostia, Rome's beach.

So far five swimmers have been selected to represent Spain at the continental event, and two more will be added at a later stage to complete the squad for the team event:

Maria De Valdés Álvarez in the women's 5km and 10km;
Ángela Martínez Guillen in the women's 5km and 10km, and in the team event;
Alberto Martínez Murcia in the men's 5km and 10km;
Guillem Pujol Belmonte in the men's 5km and 10km;
Carlos Garach Benito in the team event.

The list of the athletes for the team event will be updated after Spain’s participation in the Italian open water championships, scheduled in Piombino on 7 July. The competition will serve also to select the Spanish members of the 25km event for Roma 2022.
