The Hungarian swimming team ready for Roma 2022. Aces Milák and Hosszú expected to shine
The Hungarian Swimming Federation has announced the swimming and open water swimming team that
will take part in the upcoming European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
There are 38 athletes, 14 women and 14 men, who will compete in the lanes of the Foro Italico, in the
‘most beautiful pool in the world’. Their ace Kristóf Milák, world champion in the men’s 100m and 200m
butterfly also with a new world record of 1:50.34, will have the tightest schedule: in addition to his favourite
events, he has also entered the men’s 100m and 200m freestyle, confirming his participation even in the
relays.
Hungary’s emerging talent Hubert Kós has four individual races on his schedule. The 19-year-old swimmer
will compete in the men’s 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m and 400m individual medley.
World record holder and Hungarian star Katinka Hosszú will return to the pool that at the age of 20
crowned her world champion in the women’s 400m individual medley for the first time, finishing also third
in the world in the women’s 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly with a continental record that still
stands. These are the same races she will be competing in during the forthcoming European Championships
with the aim of winning medal number 100 in her long successful international career.
In the sea of Ostia, 9 athletes, 5 men and 4 women have been selected for the open water swimming team.
In the men’s 25km world bronze medallist Peter Galicz will challenge Italy’s world champion Dario Verani to
battle for the European title, while in the mixed 4x1500m relay the Hungarian squad will try everything to
get a podium-spot.
