World champion Maurer (GER) returns to Ostia and repeats 2009 success

She returned to Ostia and won again. German champion Angela Maurer, 47, won the women's 3km open water swimming event at the European Masters Aquatics Championships in the same sea where she triumphed at the world championships in the summer of 2009.
The open water swimmer, who was inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame, clinched nine world medals in her career, also winning the long distance event in Naples in 2006. Mostly competing in the 10km and 25km, at the European championships she won 10 medals with the historic double at Lake Balaton, near Budapest, in 2006.  "When you don't forget what you have learned in 26 years of open water swimming ;) The water is mine. Rome 2022. I'm back," Maurer amusedly commented on her social media, where she proudly posted further content showing the results.  Italy and Angela Maurer: a golden love that knows no end.
