The complex was opened in 2010. It has three swimming pools: the first is olympic outdoor pool, the second is an indoor 33-metre pool with a mobile wall that can be used to create another 25-metre pool, and the last one is for children's swimming. It is possible to play all water disciplines except diving.

For the Italian Swimming Federation, it is a very important centre for competitive activities and for the preparation of the athletes of the national team and clubs, as well as for training, educational and social activities.

In full operation, the facility has hosted Italian artistic wimming championships, Master water polo, National team championships of swimming, and regional swimming, water polo and artistic swimming championships.
