Spanish athletes qualified for Rome

The Royal Spanish Swimming Federation has announced a provisional list of qualified athletes for the European Championships in Rome, scheduled from 11 to 21 August. The number of participating athletes could increase after the Mediterranean Games which will take place in Oran (Algeria) from 25 June to 5 July.

Among the selected athletes, there is Carmen Weiler, a swimmer at her first senior international competition, who lives in Singapore and trains at Nexus International School. The 17-year-old athlete, an emerging talent in women's swimming, swam 54.98 in the 100m freestyle in 2020, an excellent result on the Spanish swimming scene. Carmen Weiler has already competed at the Foro Italico during the European Junior Swimming Championships 2021, where she topped the podium in the 50m backstroke in 28.42.

At the last European Championships in Budapest 2020, Spain collected three medals with Hugo Gonzalez: gold in the 200m medley, silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke.
