ROMA 2022: THE SYNCHRO POOL FILLED WITH WATER AMIDST THE PIETRANGELI STATUES

The European Aquatics Championships are approaching. The time to fill the pools with water has arrived at the Foro Italico Park. The multisport facility will host the swimming and diving events at the Stadio del Nuoto, artistic swimming competition at the Stadio Pietrangeli and the high diving event at the Circolo del Tennis.

The Roma 2022 executive director Bruno Campanile and Fluidra project manager Xavier Bertran have celebrated starting filling with water the temporary pool built among the historic statues surrounding the former Pallacorda, where the artistic swimming event will take place.

The pool, which measures 30x21x3m of depth with a 2,000-seat grandstand, will be filled with 1,950 cubic metres of water, to host the performances of artistic swimmer Giorgio Minisini, Italian world champion together with compatriot Lucrezia Ruggiero in the mixed event, of the Italian squad and their Ukrainian 'sisters', who emerged at the recent world championships in Budapest winning silver in the highlight event and bronze in the combined free and team technical routine.

Further iconic moments are planned in the coming days at the Foro Italico Park which is taking shape in view of the European Aquatics Championships. The event, which also includes open water swimming in the sea in Ostia, is scheduled from 11 to 21 August, to be followed by the European Masters Championships (with water polo, but without high diving) from 24 August to 4 September.
