High diving: Roma 2022 opens to the world with first Nations Cup

The spectacle of diving does not end with the At Roma 2022 the show of diving does not end with the European Aquatics Championships. On 21 August, in the same venue where the official high diving competition takes place, the Foro Italico will host the first edition of the Nations Cup, a world competition created in the Italian capital to involve all athletes from the high diving international circuit. 

The invitational sporting event will take place on the final day of the European Championships from 14:00 to 16:00. The competition format include teams made up of two athletes of the same gender from the same nation, or mixed pairs consisting of a male and a female athlete. All competing pairs will perform one compulsory and one optional individual dive, from 27 metres for men and 20 metres for women, plus a synchronised dive together from the 20-metre platform. The dives will be judged by an international jury panel comprising five to seven competition officials. Expected in Rome for the competition are some of the stars from the world circuit such as USA’s David Colturi and Andy Jones, the Mexicans Jonathan Paredes and Sergio Guzman, and the Colombian pair Miguel Garcia and Maria Paula Quintero. Among the European teams there are Frenchmen Gary Hunt and Robin Georges, Italy’s Alessandro De Rose and Andrea Barnaba, and Antonina Vishyvanova and Anna Bakunovitska from Ukraine.

The Nations Cup concludes the official programme of high diving, which will animate courts 1 and 2 of the Foro Italico tennis centre from 18 to 20 August. Four days of pure adrenaline for the spectators in the stands, ready to cheer up for the performances of the best divers in Europe and in the world. 

On Sunday 21 August from 14:00 at the Foro Italico, there will be free admission for the diving enthusiasts to people who want to get to know this discipline better to feel that thrill run down their spine during the dives into the water.
