President Pieri. "Welcome to the official website"

Dear friends,

we are at the peak of the organisational phase of the European Championships that we want to make memorable. The event will return to Italy next summer after the 1983 edition, together with the European Masters Championships.

Since then, the image and popularity of our sports have grown exponentially, especially thanks to the contribution of the European movement, which also demonstrated its qualities at the Tokyo Olympics.

It is a great privilege to host the top continental event in the city of Rome and in the historic headquarters of the "Foro Italico" Stadio del Nuoto, well known for being the venue of the 1960 Olympics, the 1994 and 2009 FINA World Championships and the Sette Colli International Swimming Trophy every year.

On the official website, which you will discover day by day, you will find all the news related to the European Championships of Rome 2022, including the reasons that led us to submit our candidacy, the objectives we intend to achieve, and of course everything related to the competition schedules, venues, accommodation, transport, tickets, social and promotional activities.

With the 2022 European Championships in Rome, we also intend to highlight the appeal of the Eternal City, which has become the Caput Mundi of sport, and of the aquatics sport in particular.

The proposed objectives are ambitious, but we are confident that we can fully achieve them.

We want to reach another dimension through the wonderful images of the competitions in Rome, which will be sent all over the world thanks to the EBU and the numerous media outlets, and, as a result, increase the number of practitioners; to further promote water culture and the tools to prevent accidents and drowning; and to demonstrate why the infrastructural legacy of international events - in this case the 2009 World Championships - are fundamental to enhancing the city and improving urban well-being.

The events are scheduled from 11 to 21 August and four competition venues will be used: the Foro Italico, which will host swimming and diving in the Stadio del Nuoto; artistic swimming in a temporary pool inside the Park, which hosts the International Tennis Championships every year; the Ostia seafront for open water and a surprise venue for the debut of high diving will combine sport, history, art, culture and tourism.

As you know, the estimated numbers for the European Championships are impressive (Covid permitting): 52 nations, 1.500 athletes, 800 media representatives, 1.000 volunteers, 100.000 spectators in the stands, 200.000,000 television viewers without considering the new media data, 74 finals for 222 medals.

All this requires an enormous organisational investment: we are well aware of this and are ready to guarantee the same level of effort for the European Masters Championship, which will be held for the first time in Italy from from 24 August to 4 September and will also include water polo.

We expect more than 11.000 participants with 22,000 entries for individual races and 1.500 relays in swimming, 600 participants in diving and artistic swimming, 70 teams with 900 athletes in water polo and 1.500 entries for the 3 km open water.

We are grateful for the trust the LEN family has placed in us and we are excited to continue working towards one of the most important sporting events of 2022. We are the Aquatics.
