The countdown begins: 100 days to the European Championships in Rome

Only 100 days left. The countdown has officially started. Today, Tuesday 3 May, is an important milestone in the run-up to the 2022 European Aquatics Championships in Rome. In 100 days, everyone will be ready in the pool, in the stands or on the beach to enjoy the 36th edition of the continental championships of aquatic disciplines, scheduled from 11-21 August.

The top European showcase returns to the Italian capital after the event’s 1983 edition and is now ready to welcome 1500 athletes coming from about 50 nations. Many stars are expected to compete in the four Olympic sports on the programme (swimming, open water swimming, diving and artistic swimming), with the addition of high diving for the first time in history.

In Rome, the facilities that will host the competitions are being prepared (Foro Italico, Ostia and a special location for high diving), and some of the numerous promotional activities designed for fans of the aquatic world and the public have already begun.

With a competition launched on social media and on the Roma 2022 website, the official mascots of the event have been selected: the rescue dogs Lea and Gastone, announced as living testimonials of the event, will be reproduced in plush for official merchandising. The recruitment campaign for the volunteers who will be the protagonists of one of the most awaited international sporting events in Italy and Europe has been open since March. For the younger ones, Roma 2022 has launched the online contest‘Stai nella festa’ (Stay at the party), designed for members of the Federal Swimming Schools. To participate, all you have to do is sending in a water-themed video with the goal, among other things, to win tickets to the competitions.

For those who intend to compete in the European Aquatics Masters Championships from 24 August to 4 September, it is possible to register and book accommodation packages in Rome.

In a few days the ticketing service will also be launched so that you can experience the emotions of the competition in the front row. There will be other initiatives for you: just don't miss them!

Keep following us at www.roma2022.eu and on the social media channels of the Italian Swimming Federation (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) to get updates on the event.
