Rome 2022 and local transport company ATAC. Moving around the city, dreaming of the European Aquatics Championships

The city of Rome is preparing to welcome the European Aquatics Championships, scheduled at the Foro Italico sporting complex and Ostia from 11 to 21 August. Over the next couple of months ‘Athletes and water’ will be the key topics of the promotional campaign linked to the most eagerly awaited sporting event of 2022 that will be displayed on ATAC vehicles, the capital's local transport company.

A journey full of excitement for those who will board Rome's metro trains on line A and B, displaying a 360-degree Roma 2022 layout for the subway cars and the Anagnina, Cipro, EUR Fermi, Policlinico, Rebibbia and Repubblica tube stations. Subway trains, turnstiles, booths, columns, gateways and BITs (2 million of integrated timed tickets) 'branded' with the event's official logo and 'covered' with images of athletes and water sports on the key event of the Roman summer.

In order to ‘keep travellers company’ there are some of the best-known Italian and international athletes, from all-round champion Gregorio Paltrinieri to Olympian Sarah Sjöström, from fearless high diving world bronze medallist Alessandro De Rose to the newly crowned world champion Benedetta Pilato, from artistic swimming world champions Giorgio Minisini and Lucrezia Ruggiero to Roman star Simona Quadarella, from gold medallist Nicolò Martinenghi to world record-holder Thomas Ceccon, from the enchanting Italian synchro swimmers to European diving champions Chiara Pellacani and Michele Santoro.

It is a truly immersive experience: taking the metro will feel like entering a swimming pool, with swimmers watching from the roofs of the subways cars. It will be possible to continue the journey to Rome 2022 by framing the special QR code inside the trains and tube stations and connecting to the official website of the European Championships (roma2022.eu) to get all updates on the latest news and access the official ticket sales channel (vivaticket.it).

The campaign started on 9 June with a train travelling on line A and will last until the end of the event, allowing Romans and tourists to discover some of the champions who will participate in the continental event. A month before the European Championships, 400 buses and 2 electric buses that will tour the streets of the capital will also be set up with the Roma 2022 branding placed in the back.
